[PHOTO] Contractor Decides to Pave Around Parked Car

Sometimes parked cars get in the way of construction, there’s no doubt about it.  Those types of situations are handled on a case-to-case basis, it seems.  There are the extreme reactions, such as smashing the cars with heavy machinery to get them out of the way, or using a skid steer to move – and damage – a legally parked car.  There’s also the option to simply have it towed, reducing any liability that you or your company might have after causing so much damage.  There’s apparently also a fourth option, which is to completely ignore the area around a parked car and let the internet laugh about it.

According to CBC News, contractors in Montreal, Canada were paving roads in preparation for an upcoming electric-car race that takes place on the city streets in July, when they came across a parked car in their path.  Instead of having the car towed, the contractors chose to pave around the car, creating a source of hilarity around the internet, as well as anger from those in the city.

The pavement that was placed around the car was just the base course, the city said.  The area will be patched and repaired at a later date.  Just judging by the pictures, the pavement section looks to be an overlayment that’s flush with the existing curb, but that could just be the angle of the picture.

There’s no doubt that construction workers love a good prank and some of them get pretty creative.  Our favorites in the past have included the seismic test prank, the fake bear on site prank, and the “staple in the finger” prank.  Obviously, as far as messing around on the job site goes, the least dangerous as the prank is, the better. 

Construction Junkie has shared a lot of demolition videos.  Typically, people line up waiting for the moment when the building explodes with their eyes peeled and cameras ready, just waiting for the perfect video.  This video, however, is much different.

If you were out looking for elves, the first logical place you’d look would be the North Pole, but that may not actually be the easiest place to find them.  According to a couple news stories from this year, elves can wreak some serious havoc on construction projects in Iceland, if they’re unhappy.

I’m not afraid to admit that I once with through a short phase in my life when I was really into disco music.  I was a child and those were the only dance moves I knew.  You may think you hate disco music, but you have to admit, at minimum, your leg starts bouncing or your head starts bobbing when Rick James, KC & The Sunshine Band, or the Bee Gees come on the radio.

So, you can blame that period in my life for taking the time to write about a concrete mix truck that’s been dressed up as a disco ball. 

Holes are dug every day on construction sites throughout the world, but they have a purpose, whether they’re for foundations, utility lines, or ponds.  The hole is typically not the end game, it’s usually the beginning.  That’s not true for game company The Cards Against Humanity, though, as they recently dug a hole for 2 days for absolutely no reason and got paid a bunch of money to do it.

“They don’t build ‘em like they used to,” as people love to say.  That phrase could definitely be applicable to the 93 year old Broadway Bridge in Little Rock, Arkansas, that refused to fall even after it was lined with explosives.  This certainly isn’t the first time a demolition has failed and it’s probably not the last.

The Onion, the fake news site known equally for its amazing funny satire as its poignant social commentary, has been entertaining people and confusing others into thinking their content is real since 1988. In recent years, the Onion has evolved from simply print media, to audio and visual content, as well. In one of their recent series, Sportology, which parodies ESPN’s Sport Science, the company absolutely skewered the reported terrible working conditions that Brazilian construction workers faced while completing the venues for the 2016 Rio Olympics.  11 workers were killed over the course of the projects and there were many infractions reported that some workers had 23 hour shifts or worked 25 days straight.

The story of David vs. Goliath is an inspiration to many people in the world and apparently even more so to one man from Finland.  With motivations still unknown today, the guy tried and tried to break an excavator by repeatedly throwing rocks at the machine.  Was he mad at the machine?  Perhaps it looked at him funny.  Was he mad at the excavator operator? That’s a more likely scenario, but the operator wasn’t having any of it.

If positioned the right way, paper is known to give some pretty mean paper cuts, so say to the office tethered thrill seekers of the world.  Try to cut wood by running a sheet of paper against it, however, and you’ll end up a mangled piece of paper.  But, perhaps we’ve been using paper the wrong way all along.  Maybe it’s a metaphor for life, put an object or a person in the wrong situation and get poor results, but put them in the right situation and you’ll reap the rewards.
