CAT Announces First Ever Phone with Built-in Thermal Imaging

In the past, we’ve mentioned several good reasons why you should use a thermal imaging camera on your jobsites. It’s been understandable why they haven’t been used much in the past, it’s a very expensive piece of equipment with a very specific use and they weren’t easy at all to carry around safely.  FLIR took huge steps forward with thermal imaging price and mobility with their FLIR One smart phone thermal imaging attachment last year. Now, CAT has teamed with FLIR to release the first phone ever with integrated thermal imaging capabilities.The CAT S60 smartphone isn’t just a niece piece of technology, though; it’s super rugged, just like you’d expect from the company that produces tons of heavy construction equipment. With the ability to withstand drops of close to 6 feet (1.8 meters) and stay under water at depths of over 16 feet (5 meters) for over an hour, this may be the most rugged and technologically functional phone for the construction industry yet.  It’s so tough that it actually EXCEEDS military specs.  If you’re a plumber, it means you can actually take pictures under water.The thermal imaging camera, powered by FLIR’s Lepton Thermal Microcamera Module, has a range of 50-100 feet and can see through smoke.
